Sometimes family history is commemorated when a landmark is named in their honour.  Here are some some bragging rights for the Banda family.

Wax up your surf boards because we are going surfing on Banda Lake!

Banda Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada

On the section of land (NE-02-46-08-W3) first homesteaded by Yoil and Vista Banda exists a body of water that has been given their family name. The lake was named on December 4, 1934 according to the federal government website Natural Resources Canada.

Banda Lake is located about 18km to the east of Marcelin, Saskatchewan.  Google Maps measures the size of the lake to be about 500m by 320m. Perhaps there are larger bodies of water in this world but this one is named for the Banda clan!

Yoil travelled to homestead in the region along with his sister Rafira and her husband Nicoli “Nick” Grovu and brothers Vasile and Gheorge “George”.

I was able to learn a lot about the history of this family in The Banda Family History.
